What to Check When You Visit a PG or Flat in Bangalore

2 October 2026

Photos get you interested, a phone call gets you a visit, but the actual decision should happen in person. A room can look perfect online and still have a water problem, a noise problem, or a commute that's twenty minutes longer than Google Maps promised. Here's what's worth actually checking before you say yes โ€” not just walking in, nodding, and signing.

Water: the one thing photos never show

Ask to see the water running โ€” the tap, the shower, the flush โ€” not just "is there water," but water pressure and whether it's available at the times you'd actually need it (morning rush especially). Ask directly: is there a borewell, Cauvery supply, or tanker dependency, and has supply ever been irregular? Bangalore's water situation varies block by block, and this is the single most common post-move-in complaint that never shows up in a listing photo.

Walk the actual route, not the map estimate

Google Maps gives you distance, not reality. If you're commuting to a specific office or college, walk or ride the actual route at roughly the time you'd normally travel โ€” a 15-minute estimate can become 35 minutes once you account for one bad junction or a road that floods when it rains. This matters more for PGs near tech parks on the Outer Ring Road, where traffic patterns are notoriously uneven through the day.

Noise, light, and what's actually outside the window

Stand in the room with your eyes closed for thirty seconds and just listen โ€” traffic, a generator, a neighboring construction site, a temple or mosque with a loudspeaker nearby. None of these are dealbreakers on their own, but you should know about them before, not after. Also check what's directly outside the window: a wall two feet away blocking all light is common in dense layouts and rarely visible in listing photos taken with a wide-angle lens.

Internet โ€” test it, don't take their word for it

If Wi-Fi is listed as included, ask to connect your phone and run a quick speed test on the spot, especially if you work from home. "We have Wi-Fi" and "the Wi-Fi reaches your specific room at a usable speed" are different claims, and the gap between them is where WFH complaints usually start.

Storage, furniture condition, and what's actually yours

Open the cupboard, check the mattress isn't sagging or stained, and confirm what furniture is actually included versus what's a "can be arranged" add-on. Ask specifically about storage space if you're moving with more than a couple of bags โ€” many PG rooms are optimized for sharing density, not storage, and this is easy to underestimate from photos alone.

Power backup โ€” does it cover what you need

"Power backup available" can mean anything from a full-apartment inverter to a couple of emergency tube lights during a cut. Ask explicitly whether it covers your fan/AC and your charging points, not just the common areas โ€” this matters a lot more in the months when Bangalore gets real power cuts.

Meet whoever you'll actually be dealing with

If it's a PG, try to meet the warden or on-site manager, not just the owner who may not be around day-to-day. Ask how complaints get handled and how fast โ€” a slow tap or a broken geyser is a minor annoyance once; it's a real problem if it takes two weeks to fix.

Trust the visit over the pitch

A good owner or manager will let you take your time, won't rush you to decide on the spot, and won't get defensive when you ask direct questions about any of the above. If something feels off during the visit โ€” vague answers, pressure to decide immediately, access you weren't shown โ€” that instinct is usually worth listening to, same as it is for a fake listing you'd never have visited in the first place.

CoFindz connects you straight to the owner or manager before you even visit โ€” ask about water, Wi-Fi, and power backup over WhatsApp first, then confirm it all in person. Browse listings across Whitefield, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Kundalahalli, Mahadevapura, and Kadubeesanahalli, and go see it for yourself before you commit.
